Where to Stay in Krakow: 10 Best Neighborhoods + Map
Planning a trip to Krakow and wondering where to stay? Look no further!
Even though Krakow is fairly small (especially compared to where I live, Istanbul, with its 16 million people 😅), its neighborhoods each have their own distinct personality and vibe!
Choosing where to stay can make a huge difference in the way you experience Krakow: Do you want to wake up to the sound of horse-drawn carriages in Old Town, surrounded by medieval architecture and Krakow’s most iconic landmarks?
Or maybe you’d rather stay in a quiet riverside boutique hotel, sipping coffee with a view of Wawel Castle?
Perhaps you’re a foodie and on a mission to find the best zapiekanka and pierogi spots? (*cough* Check Kazimierz! *cough*)
Much like my Krakow Travel Guide, this blog post was a labor of love and written from first-hand experience. I’ve traveled to Krakow multiple times, and even lived here in 1- to 3-month stints. In fact, I’ve stayed in almost every neighborhood on this list!
To make this post even better, I’ve also asked for input from a few local friends, so that you’re getting insider recommendations from the people who know Krakow best.
In this guide, I’ll walk you through the 10 best areas to stay in Krakow, complete with a general overview, pros and cons, and hotel recommendations for each.

THE OLD TOWN (Stare Miasto)
BEST FOR: First Time Travelers & Central Stays
Without a doubt, Stare Miasto (Old Town) is one of the best neighborhoods in Krakow for first-time travelers. Staying here means you’ll be right in the center of the action because you’ll have easy and convenient access to the city’s most famous landmarks.
The Old Town, thanks to its, well, historic charm, is very atmospheric. If you’re dreaming of cobblestone streets, narrow alleys, historic churches, and charming cafés with outdoor terraces, you’ll find it all here!
This is the historic heart of the city and home to many Krakow landmarks, including the Main Market Square (Rynek Główny), St. Mary’s Basilica, the Cloth Hall (Sukiennice), Town Hall Tower, Florianska Street, and Barbican (Medieval Outpost).
It’s also one of the most walkable areas in Krakow, meaning you won’t need public transport to explore most of the city’s highlights — you can easily stroll from one landmark to another! Even Wawel Castle and the Vistula River are just a short walk away.
Psst, one last travel tip: Because of its central location, Old Town is also one of the best places to stay if you want a hassle-free trip. Most guided tours, day trips, and airport transfers depart from this area, making it very convenient if you’re planning a day trip to Auschwitz, the Wieliczka Salt Mine, Zakopane, or beyond.
PROS | CONS |
---|---|
In the center of everything! Incredibly walkable – No need for public transport, as everything is within easy reach. Beautiful & historic – Cobblestone streets, medieval architecture, and a charming atmosphere. Convenient for day trips – Most tours and transfers depart from this area. | Higher prices – Hotels and restaurants tend to be more expensive here. Can be crowded – One of the busiest areas, especially in peak tourist season. Limited local feel – Mostly geared toward tourists rather than residential life. Traffic restrictions – Many streets are pedestrian-only, so you’ll need to walk ‘outside’ of the center to be picked up by a taxi or Uber. |

KAZIMIERZ
BEST FOR: Foodies and Nightlife
If you want to stay in a neighborhood with legendary local food, eclectic spots, and a bohemian atmosphere, Kazimierz is the place!
Kazimierz is most known for being Krakow’s Jewish District, and the neighborhood preserves this history with centuries-old synagogues, hidden courtyards, museums, and guided tours.
That’s not all, however. Kazimierz is one of Krakow’s trendiest neighborhoods, where you’ll find some of the city’s best food markets, candlelit cafes, quirky boutiques, and colorful street art.
If you’re wondering how Kazimierz went from a Jewish community to a lively hipster district, let me explain… It all started around the 14th century, when Kazimierz was founded by King Casimir the Great. In fact, it was originally a separate town! It soon became home to Krakow’s Jewish population, which flourished for centuries and left behind many important remnants (some which can be seen to this day!)
Unfortunately, everything changed during World War II, when the Jewish community was forcibly relocated to the Podgorze ghetto. After the war, Kazimierz fell into neglect and was nearly forgotten… until Steven Spielberg’s film Schindler’s List came out in 1993. Many scenes were filmed here, which brought global attention to the neighborhood and sparked renewed efforts.
By the early 2000s, artists, entrepreneurs, and students started moving into Kazimierz, drawn by its low rents and historic charm. Quirky cafés, underground bars, and indie galleries began popping up in abandoned pre-war buildings, turning the district into a creative hub. That’s the (very) condensed story of Kazimierz!
Interestingly, Kazimierz is also one of Krakow’s best nightlife districts. The area is packed with cozy speakeasies, alternative bars, and lively beer gardens, making it great for a laid-back evening or a night out.
If you’re reading that and thinking, Oh no, I need my beauty sleep! — No worries, I completely understand (I’m the same way!). Despite staying in different areas of Kazimierz, I never had a problem with the noise.
If you’re a light sleeper but still want to experience Kazimierz, I recommend staying one or two streets away from Plac Nowy, which is one of the most central nightlife areas. Everywhere else is fine. :)
PROS | CONS |
---|---|
Incredible food scene – Some of Krakow’s best restaurants, cafés, and street food. Vibrant nightlife – Trendy bars, beer gardens, and live music venues. Rich history & culture – Jewish heritage sites, museums, and synagogues. Cool, artsy atmosphere – Quirky boutiques, street art, and indie galleries. | Can be noisy at night (on certain streets) – Especially near Plac Nowy and popular bar streets. Fewer luxury hotels – Mostly boutique and mid-range accommodations. |
Where to Stay in Kazimierz

TOP PICK: PURO Kraków Kazimierz (⭐ 9.3)
One of the best hotels in Krakow — travelers can’t stop raving about it! (Even my friend stayed here and loved it!) PURO Kazimierz is stylish, modern, and packed with tons of amenities like a fitness center, spa, 24-hour front desk, two restaurants (!), a bar, and even a garden. Honestly, it’s hard to believe you get all this at such a great price.

LUXURY PICK: 1891 Garni Hotel (⭐ 9.2)
Elegant yet cozy, sophisticated yet comfortable — that’s 1891 Garni Hotel in a nutshell. Expect spacious rooms, plush bedding, and top-notch service in a setting that feels both refined and welcoming.

DESIGN LOVERS’ DREAM: Warszauer Hotel (⭐ 9.4)
This newly-opened design hotel in Kazimierz is a visual treat — every inch of Warszauer Hotel is a delightful treat for design lovers. With only 6 chic crafted rooms, it feels more like staying in an exclusive art gallery than a hotel. Stylish, intimate, and unforgettable. Their breakfast is a must-try!

MID-RANGE VALUE: Hotel Miodowa (⭐ 8.8)
A solid mid-range choice for travelers who want comfort without breaking the bank. Hotel Miodowa is well-located in Kazimierz, with spacious rooms, friendly service, and modern amenities. Best of all, breakfast is included in the price! ;)

HISTORIC CHARM: Hotel Rubinstein (⭐ 8.9)
Named after the famous Helena Rubinstein, this hotel is all about Old World elegance. Housed in a 15th-century tenement house, the rooms feature warm interiors with original fragments of the historic walls, historic details, and a touch of luxury. If you love staying somewhere with character, this is it!

BEST FOR NIGHTLIFE: Green Apartments Nowy Square (⭐ 9.2)
Want to be right in the action? Green Apartments Nowy Square is steps from Kazimierz’s nightlife hub. Since it’s near Plac Nowy, it can be a bit noisy, but if you’re planning to go out, this location can’t be beat. Choose from a variety of apartments, including studios, one-bedrooms, and two-bedrooms — perfect for solo travelers or groups.

GREAT FOR GROUPS: PlayRoom Aparthotel (⭐ 9.2)
Love the Green Apartments vibe (above) but prefer a little peace and quiet? PlayRoom Aparthotel offers the best of both worlds: a stylish and peaceful stay (it’s located near a park!), with a mix of spacious studios and apartments for up to 9 guests. A steal for the space and amenities you get!
Other Great Options:

STRADOM
BEST FOR: Central Access Without Crowds
If you read about both neighborhoods above and thought, Huh, they both sound so great! I wish I could stay in both Old Town *and* Kazimierz at the same time!
Don’t fret, I have the perfect compromise: Stradom!
This little “buffer zone” is located right between Old Town and Kazimierz, making it one of the most convenient places to stay in Krakow. If you book a hotel here, you’ll get the best of both worlds — a short 10-minute walk to Old Town in one direction and a short 10-minute walk to Kazimierz in the other direction! 😉
Stradom itself is a quieter residential area, which is a great option for travelers who want central access without the crowds. While it doesn’t have as many attractions on its own, Stradom does have fantastic local restaurants and wine bars (without the touristy prices!)
Travel Tip: This is the neighborhood I usually stay in when I travel to Krakow! ;)
PROS | CONS |
---|---|
Best of both worlds – Walking distance to both Old Town and Kazimierz. Quieter than its neighbors – Fewer crowds and less noise than staying directly in Old Town or Kazimierz. Great for food & wine – Excellent local restaurants and wine bars without the tourist markups. More relaxed vibe – A nice balance between central and residential. Well-connected – Easy to get around on foot or by tram. | Fewer attractions within the neighborhood – You’ll need to walk to the main sights. Limited hotel options – Not as many accommodations compared to Old Town or Kazimierz. |
Where to Stay in Stradom

TOP PICK: Stradom House, Autograph Collection (⭐ 9.4)
A 14th-century monastery turned luxury hotel? Yep, and it’s as cool as it sounds! Stradom House is a masterclass in old-meets-new, with stunningly designed rooms, a top-tier gym (one of the best in Kraków!), and a curated art collection featuring local artists. But the real showstopper is Hedwig’s Bar, a gorgeous cocktail lounge inside a restored 14th-century chapel.

ROMANTIC & GLAM: The Loft Hotel (Adults Only) (⭐ 9.0)
If chic, modern, and a little indulgent sounds like your vibe, The Loft Hotel is for you. Some rooms come with hot tubs (perfect for relaxing after exploring), there’s a rooftop pool, a 24/7 restaurant, and even complimentary Prosecco on arrival — yes, really! Want to feel extra VIP? There’s even a private chauffeur service. If you’re looking for a romantic getaway that’s effortlessly cool, this is it.

PET-FRIENDLY: Hotel Ferreus Modern Art Deco (⭐ 9.2)
If chic design, pops of color, and a splash of glam sound like your vibe, Hotel Ferreus is calling. This 5-star stunner has it all: a sleek indoor pool, a sauna, a rooftop terrace, and even private parking. Plus it’s pet-friendly!

BUDGET-FRIENDLY STYLE: Habitat Apartments (⭐ 9.2)
A design-focused aparthotel that’s perfect for travelers who want something stylish without the $$$ price tag. Each apartment has its own theme (check out the adorable boho one!) — plus if you book early, the rates are even better. A great mid-range to budget option in Kraków’s charming Stradom district

EXCELLENT LOCATION: Leonardo Boutique Hotel Kraków Old Town (⭐ 9.0)
Want a solid, stylish stay in the perfect location? Leonardo Boutique Hotel has clean, modern rooms, a fantastic location, and all the essentials for a no-fuss, super-comfortable trip to Kraków.
Other great options:
- St Agnes Apartments Old Town
- Holiday Inn Krakow City Centre by IHG
- Best Western Plus Krakow Old Town
- Hotel Wielopole
- Ventus Rosa Boutique Aparthotel

WAWEL
BEST FOR: Luxury Travelers
Looking for a quiet and upscale stay in Krakow? The area around Wawel Castle is a mix of luxury, history, and scenic views… and it’s also just steps away from Krakow’s most famous landmark, Wawel Castle!
Note: While ‘Wawel’ isn’t technically the name of this neighborhood (if we’re being official, this is technically the eastern border of Nowy Świat), I’ll call it that for convenience. After all, nobody really says, “I’m staying in Nowy Świat.” :)
This area is quieter and more upscale compared to the other neighborhoods (especially Old Town), which makes it perfect for those who prefer a peaceful atmosphere while still being close to Krakow’s main attractions. It’s less than a 10-minute walk to the Old Town, and even less of a walk to Krakow’s best museums.
Around Wawel, you’ll find tree-lined streets, scenic river walks, and amazing views of Wawel Castle (especially at sunset!). It’s also where some of Krakow’s best luxury hotels are, many which have relaxing spas, elegant restaurants, and gorgeous castle views.
PROS | CONS |
---|---|
Quiet & upscale – Less crowded than Old Town but still central. Stunning views – Overlooks Wawel Castle and the Vistula River. Luxury accommodations – Some of Krakow’s best hotels are in the Wawel area | Limited budget options – Hotels in this area tend to be high-end. Fewer restaurants & cafés – Some great spots exist, but choices are more limited. |
Where to Stay in Wawel

STAY LIKE ROYALTY: Kanonicza 22 (⭐ 9.4)
Ever dreamed of living like Polish royalty? Now’s your chance! 😉 Kanonicza 22 is a luxurious ultra-exclusive apartment stay with classic, elegant, and ridiculously gorgeous interiors. The Luxury Suite is the real showstopper, featuring a private jacuzzi and amazing views of the Wawel Castle. Unforgettable? Absolutely!

5-STAR LUXURY: Sheraton Grand Krakow (⭐ 9.0)
An iconic luxury stay along the Vistula River, Sheraton Grand Krakow delivers sophisticated comfort and first-class service. Expect spacious, polished rooms, a rooftop bar with river views, and an indoor pool to unwind in. Plus, it’s just a short walk from Wawel Castle and the Old Town, making it a perfect mix of convenience and indulgence.

GRANDEUR: Bachleda Luxury Hotel Krakow MGallery (⭐ 9.5)
Rich velvet furnishings, opulent accents, and a vibe that whispers old-world elegance — Bachleda Luxury Hotel feels like something straight out of a movie. From its plush interiors to its elegant spa, indoor pool, and fine-dining restaurant, this 5-star escape is ideal for those who love a grand, cinematic hotel experience.

CLASSIC PICK: Radisson Blu Hotel Krakow (⭐ 8.6)
If you like trusted international hotel brands but still want a touch of local charm, Radisson Blu Kraków is a solid pick. Big, comfy rooms, a sleek bar, and a location that’s perfect — it’s just steps from Planty Park and Wawel Castle, plus the tram stops right in front of the hotel!

HISTORIC VILLA: Willa Wawel – LoftAffair Collection (⭐ 9.1)
If history is your thing, you’ll love Willa Wawel. Built in the late 1800s for a local philosopher and traveler, this beautifully restored villa-turned-aparthotel lets you soak up Kraków’s past while enjoying modern comforts. Perfect for those looking for a boutique stay with a story.
Other Great Options:

KLEPARZ & GRZEGÓRZKI
Best for: Budget Travelers & People With a Layover
Yes, a two-for-one! ;)
Kleparz and Grzegórzki may not be the first neighborhoods that come to mind for travelers, but in my humble opinion, they’re hidden gems when it comes to convenience and affordability.
If you’re looking for a budget-friendly area in Krakow that’s still well-connected, Kleparz and Grzegórzki are two great options (especially if you’re arriving in Krakow by train or bus!)
Both neighborhoods are close to the city’s main railway station (Kraków Główny), which is ideal if you plan to travel around Poland or need easy access to transport.
Kleparz is just north of Old Town, while Grzegórzki is located to the eastern side of the station. Both areas are much less touristy than the city center but still have plenty of cool cafés, great restaurants, and affordable hotels.
One of the best things about Kleparz and Grzegórzki is the food scene. While Old Town and Kazimierz get all the attention, this area has some amazing yet unpretentious third-wave cafés and international restaurants in Krakow — without the crowds or tourist prices.
(Two of my favorite restaurants in Krakow are located here! Check out Tre Viet for authentic Vietnamese food and Aleya Food Truck for Indian street food).
Despite being near the main train station, this area is very safe — unlike railway-adjacent neighborhoods in some other European cities (like *ahem* Rome 👀). It’s also surprisingly quiet, making it a good choice for travelers who want a peaceful night’s sleep but don’t mind walking.
Don’t miss St. Florian’s Church, where Pope John Paul II once served before becoming pope, Kleparz Market for fresh local produce and Polish specialties, and Galeria Krakowska, a massive shopping mall, which is perfect for last-minute shopping before you catch the train out of Krakow.
PROS | CONS |
---|---|
Budget-friendly – More affordable than Old Town or Kazimierz. Great transport connections – Right next to Kraków Główny train station. Underrated food scene – Great international restaurants and third-wave cafés. | Fewer tourist attractions – You’ll need to walk or take transport to the main sights. Can feel a bit “in transit” – More practical than atmospheric. |
Where to Stay in Kleparz and Grzegórzki

QUIET & CENTRAL: Hotel Indigo Kraków – Old Town, an IHG Hotel (⭐ 9.1)
Despite being just two minutes from Kraków Główny station, Hotel Indigo somehow remains peaceful and quiet — a rare find in the city center! Expect chic, modern rooms with unique design touches, plus a sauna for unwinding after a day of exploring. Perfect for those who want style, comfort, and convenience all in one.

COZY VIBES: Puro Kraków Kleparz (⭐ 9.2)
If you loved my PURO Kazimierz pick, you’ll love PURO Kleparz too! This chic, modern hotel has a fun modern design, big windows, and plenty of natural light. Bonus points for free hot cocoa and tea 24/7 (perfect for cozying up after a long day of sightseeing!)

CATS!: FatCat Apartments (⭐ 9.1)
I stayed here during one of my ‘layover’ trips while traveling from Warsaw to Zakopane, and it was fantastic. The owner is incredibly nice and attentive, the apartments are spacious, stylish, and well-equipped, and there’s even a cat-themed apartment (!!). Plus, it’s just a short walk to the main station — comfortable and convenient!

ELEGANT: Vienna House (⭐ 9.1)
A sleek, modern hotel that’s got a touch of classic European elegance. Vienna House combines spacious rooms, top-notch service (it’s operated by the Wyndham chain), and a great location — close enough to Old Town but without the crowds. Refined yet welcoming, it’s a fantastic mid-to-upper range pick.

FUN AND MODERN: Radisson RED Hotel & Radisson RED Apartments (⭐ 9.2)
Staying at Radisson RED feels like stepping into a modern art gallery — but make it comfy. You can expect bold, creative decor, eye-catching murals, and plenty of personality. The tram stop outside makes Old Town super accessible, but with 229 rooms and great on-site facilities, you might just want to stay in and enjoy the vibe.
Other Great Options:
We’ve looked at Krakow’s central areas, but what’s it like across the Vistula River? Spoiler: There are some awesome neighborhoods there as well! Let’s check them out. :)

PODGORZE
BEST FOR: Digital Nomads & Those Who Want to Live Like a Local
Podgórze is up-and-coming, and I mean that in a not “watch-your-wallet-and-don’t-walk-alone-at-night” way — it’s completely safe! — just still under the radar for most tourists. The best way to describe it is like Kleparz’s (above) sibling across the river.
It’s one of the best neighborhoods in Krakow for budget travelers thanks to its affordable apartments, local atmosphere, and a growing café scene.
I’d also like to mention that it’s one of the best neighborhoods in Krakow for digital nomads, since the apartments here haven’t been turned into tiny short-term rentals yet. There are typically spacious studios or apartments with amenities like a full kitchen (with more than 1 pot and 1 pan! 😱), washing machine, and more.
During our first (digital nomad) trip to Poland, we rented an apartment in Podgorze for one month and used it as our ‘base camp’ for exploring Krakow.
In my very humble opinion, it was the perfect spot to live like a local (cliche, I know, but it really did feel very local!) and save money. We stayed near the Ghetto Hero’s Square (Plac Bohaterów Getta), which was quiet, had excellent public transportation (there are multiple tram routes), and access to all the essentials (there were multiple grocery stores nearby).
If you decide to stay in Podgorze, these are my favorite places: TWORZYWO and Fresh Café for coffee, Bar Krakowski for delicious local food (it’s a milk bar), and Ramen People for, well, ramen. :)
PROS | CONS |
---|---|
Budget-friendly – More affordable apartments and hotels compared to Old Town and Kazimierz. Local vibe – Less touristy, with a laid-back, authentic atmosphere. Great for digital nomads – Spacious apartments with full kitchens and work-friendly cafés. Good public transport – Well-connected by tram, making it easy to get around Krakow. | Not as central – A 15-20 minute walk or tram ride to Old Town. Fewer tourist attractions – Somewhat less sightseeing compared to Old Town or Kazimierz. |
Where to Stay in Podgorze

RIVER VIEWS & MODERN COMFORT: The Bridge Suites Hotel (⭐ 8.7)
Waking up to Vistula River views? Yes, please! The Bridge Suites Hotel offers modern, stylish apartments with plenty of space to relax while enjoying serene riverfront scenery. It’s a calm, scenic stay just outside the busy city center.

SOLID ALL-ROUNDER: Qubus Hotel Kraków (⭐ 9.0)
Looking for a comfortable, reliable stay with all the essentials? Qubus Hotel is a great pick, offering modern rooms, a fantastic breakfast, and even a pool. It’s right by the Vistula River, so you get great views, plus the hotel has its own boat (!!) that offers cruises along the Vistula River during the summer (May to mid-October).

APARTHOTEL: Lwowska 1 (⭐ 8.9)
Offering both hotel rooms and aparthotels, Lwowska 1 gives you spacious, stylish suites with kitchenettes while still offering hotel-like perks (hello, room service!). Whether you’re staying a few nights or longer, this hybrid stay offers comfort, space, and a prime location in Podgórze. Breakfast is included in the price, and the tram to the Old Town is just steps away.

APARTMENT-STYLE LUXURY: 1898 Parkside Boutique Residence (⭐ 8.5)
The perfect mix of boutique and homey. 1898 Parkside Boutique Residence gives you beautifully designed apartment-style suites with fully equipped kitchens—so you get extra space and flexibility without losing the luxury feel. I especially love that they have so many options, from studios to one-two- and even three-bedroom apartments (great for groups and families!)

BUDGET-FRIENDLY: NovaNest Apartments – Kalwaryjska (⭐ 8.1)
Simple, clean, and with a great price, NovaNest Apartments is a great pick if you’re looking for a no-fuss, budget-friendly stay with all the essentials. The location on Kalwaryjska Street puts you near trams, restaurants, and local spots — ideal for travelers who want a cozy base without breaking the bank.

LUDWINÓW & DĘBNIKI
BEST FOR: Families & Those Who Like Peace and Quiet
Podgórze is a fantastic base, but if you’re looking for a family-friendly neighborhood in Krakow, Ludwinów & Dębniki are two areas worth considering.
Both neighborhoods are similar to Podgorze (i.e. Podgorze, Ludwinow, and Debniki are all near the Vistula River) but further from the center and have a quiet vibe, green parks, and river views. It’s a nice escape from the tourist crowds while still having quick access to the main sights — Wawel Castle is a 15-minute walk, while Kazimierz and the Old Town can easily be reached by direct tram.
These areas are also great for outdoor lovers. The riverfront Boulevard is a popular walking and cycling route, while Zakrzówek Park is a lovely place to visit during the warmer months (it has a lake!)
PROS | CONS |
---|---|
Peaceful & family-friendly – Quiet, residential, and away from the crowds. Beautiful nature & river views – Perfect for outdoor lovers and scenic walks. Close to Wawel Castle – A 15-minute walk to one of Krakow’s top landmarks. Well-connected – Direct trams to Old Town and Kazimierz. | Fewer dining options – Great local spots exist, but not as many restaurants or cafés as in other parts. |
Where to Stay in Ludwinow & Debniki

UNIQUE STAY: New Port Premium Floating Apartments (Ludwinow | ⭐ 9.1)
Looking for one of the most unique hotels in Krakow? Meet New Port Floating Apartments, where you can stay in a floating suite with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the river! Despite being on a boat, the rooms are super modern (think cruise ship but cooler). Plus, if you want to stay in and chill, there’s an on-boat restaurant!

BOUTIQUE & COZY: Benefis Boutique Hotel (Debniki | ⭐ 9.1)
Small, cute, and charming, Benefis Boutique Hotel is a hidden gem in Debniki that offers warm, welcoming interiors and a super comfy stay just steps from the river.

Traveling with kids but still want something modern and stylish? Park Inn by Radisson Kraków nails it with spacious, well-furnished rooms (including family suites!), a great breakfast, and an easy location near the river.

VIEWS!: Cracow Riverside Aparthotel (Debniki | ⭐ 9.4)
If waking up to gorgeous river views sounds like your dream stay, Cracow Riverside Aparthotel has you covered. These spacious, modern apartments come with fully equipped kitchens, making them perfect for longer stays or travelers who love a little extra space. Plus, Debniki’s riverside location is peaceful yet central (just a 10-minute walk to Wawel Castle!)

SPA: A11 Apartments & SPA Dermique (Ludwinow | ⭐ 9.1)
Looking for a stylish stay with a side of self-care? A11 Apartments & SPA Dermique is all about modern, well-designed apartments — but the real perk is an on-site spa where you can book facials, massages, and more.
Other Great Options:
- B&B Hotel (Debniki)
- Q Hotel Plus Kraków (Ludwinow)
- The Boat – Hostel&Chill (Ludwinow) — A hostel on a boat? You bet!
- Hilton Garden Inn Krakow (Ludwinow)

BONUS: NOWA HUTA
Best for: Alternative Travelers & History Enthusiasts
Yes, a wildcard for sure :)
If you’re into communist-era history, unique architecture, and (very) off-the-beaten-path destinations, Nowa Huta offers a completely different experience from Krakow’s medieval charm.
The history of Nowa Huta is almost as interesting as the neighborhood itself, so let’s get acquainted with this area through a little history lesson:
Nowa Huta (which translates to “New Mill”) was established in 1949 as a Soviet-style utopian city designed to house workers for Poland’s largest steel plant. It was meant to be a communist ideal — a city built for the working class — with massive avenues, concrete apartment blocks, and huge public squares.
Unlike Krakow’s winding medieval streets, Nowa Huta was also built on a strict grid plan, with wide boulevards and symmetrical architecture. In fact, its layout and architecture style resemble a sort of Little Paris, although IMHO, it looked a bit similar to Bucharest (another communist satellite state in the mid-1900s :))
Nowa Huta was actually a separate city, but in 1951, it was incorporated into Krakow. Nowadays, it’s an interesting ‘time capsule’ of Poland’s past, although it’s also slowly evolving into a hotspot for alternative travelers.
While I don’t really recommend staying in Nowa Huta if it’s your first time in Krakow, it’s an interesting area to visit if you’re already “been there, done that” and want something new and different.
If that sounds like you, be sure to check out the sprawling Plac Centralny (Central Square), take a tour of the aforementioned Nowa Huta Steelworks, or visit the modernist-style Arka Pana Church, which was built in defiance of communist authorities.
If you prefer to stay elsewhere but want to visit Nowa Huta for a day, you can book this top-rated guided tour in a cute retro car. :)
PROS | CONS |
---|---|
Completely different from the rest of Krakow – A fascinating look at Poland’s communist past. Unique architecture – Wide boulevards, brutalist buildings, and a “socialist utopia” design. Great for history lovers – Plenty of Cold War-era landmarks, including the Nowa Huta Steelworks. Fewer tourists – An off-the-beaten-path destination with a more local vibe. Cheap food & drinks – Authentic milk bars and budget-friendly restaurants. | Not a first-time visitor spot – Lacks the classic Krakow experience of Old Town and Kazimierz. Far from the center – About 20~30 minutes by direct tram from the Main Square. Fewer accommodations – Not many hotels, since it’s not a typical tourist area. |
Where to Stay in Nowa Hut

AUTHENTIC: Feel The Old Socialist Style Apartment (⭐ 8.9)
Of course, no Nowa Huta list is complete without an authentic apartment from the era! Feel The Old Socialist Style Apartment is exactly what it sounds like — vintage décor, retro furniture, and a step back in time (IYKYK if you’ve ever lived in one of these apartments *ahem*). Located near a classic milk bar, this place is super budget-friendly and perfect for history lovers.

CONVENIENT & COMFY: ibis Styles Kraków East (⭐ 9.1)
Although it’s a bit further out from main Nowa Huta, don’t let that stop you — ibis Styles Kraków East has everything you need for a comfortable stay. A short walk to the bus station and just 10 minutes from the tram that takes you straight to the city center.

EXCELLENT LOCATION: Hotel Centrum Business (⭐ 8.1)
A newly renovated (in 2025!) 4-star hotel that keeps things simple, comfy, and functional. Hotel Centrum Business is just steps from the Nowa Huta Museum, making it a great base for exploring Nowa Huta. With an in-house restaurant, clean rooms, and all the essentials, this is a no-frills but solid choice.
