AIRLINE TICKETS
Perhaps the most important aspect of travel is, well, getting there! Here are my favorite websites to book airline tickets.
✈️ Google Flights
Checking out flights on Google is the very first step I take when planning a trip. Heck, I even use it when I’m daydreaming about potential trips or just want to see my options!
One of the coolest features of Google Flights (especially if you’re a visual person like me) is their ‘Explore’ map function. You type in your origin airport and when you want to travel, and it automatically shows you the cheapest destinations. Perfect for that spontaneous trip ;)
When using Google Flights, I pay attention to 3 important things: the average price of a ticket, what airlines* fly to my destination, and the total flight time. This helps me establish a baseline and guides my future searches. From there, you can narrow down your options even further by using filters like the number of stops, total trip duration, airlines, luggage, price, and much more.
Last but not least, one of my favorite functions on Google Flights are the price graphs — it’ll tell you the cheapest days to fly right on the calendar, so there’s no need to click and scroll a million times.
After getting a general sense of my options, I’ll then go through each of the sites listed below and see which offers the cheapest ticket. Volia!
* Note that Google Flights doesn’t show most budget airlines (some, like Southwest, do this on purpose). That’s where the next websites come in :)

✈️ Skyscanner
If there’s something that Skyscanner does better than any other flight search engine, it’s definitely the Everywhere feature.
All you need to do is input your departure airport and dates, and then select ‘Everywhere’ when prompted. You’ll get a huge list of potential destinations — and typically for an amazing price!
Even better, you can click the dropdown button next to each country and get a detailed list of cities, plus the prices for airfare and hotels in each place.
Another great feature (especially if you’re a spontaneous traveler!) are Skyscanner’s Last Minute Deals. These deals are super cheap because they depart within the next 90 days, but you can save a lot of money if you’re flexible.
For example, I found a round-trip ticket from Athens to Mumbai for only $350, but normally it would have cost more than $700 — so that’s a saving of 50% off!
Psst… they also have a really neat blog if you’re looking for inspiration. :)

✈️ Momondo
Back when I was just starting out as a noob adventurer, Momondo was my go-to website — and it’s still something that I use to this day!
Momondo notes that “you can be your own travel agent” thanks to its powerful search tools.
After you click ‘Search,’ Momondo’s aggregator combs through hundreds of airlines and OTAs to get you the best (and cheapest!) results.
Speaking of low fares: their specialty is cheap flights and, in fact, Money Inc. found that Momondo offered the cheapest airline tickets in about 95% of airfare searches. Isn’t that awesome?
Another feature unique to Momondo is that it includes lesser-known and budget airlines (including Southwest!) — don’t forget to buy a cute souvenir or a fun experience with all that money you saved!

✈️ Kiwi.com
Although Kiwi might look similar to the other airfare search engines mentioned on this list, what really sets it apart is the Nomad feature.
Like the name says, it’s great for digital nomads or if you’re planning a big multi-city trip.
For example, let’s you want to have a whirlwind Europe getaway where you start in Paris, then spend 4 days in Barcelona before jaunting off to Amsterdam for 3 days, and finally enjoying a few days in London. All you need to do is plug in your desired destinations, how many days you want to spend in each spot, and voila! Kiwi comes up with the cheapest options for you in a beautifully-organized way.
Best of all, it combines flights, buses, and trains, and saves you hours of travel planning. Amazing, right?
Another really nice feature is the Kiwi.com Guarantee, which covers flight delays, a change in flights, and/or cancellations. That’s right: if something goes wrong, Kiwi will help you get a new flight and pay for food, transportation, and accommodations (if necessary). Be sure to check their page here for all the info.

✈️ CheapOair
While I typically use the previous four websites to search for airline tickets, sometimes I’ll add in CheapOair just in case. :)
One of the unique aspects of CheapOair is their ClubMiles loyalty program, where you can earn points by booking your travels through their site. The more you book, the higher your tier will go, and the more rewards you’ll earn (like free cancellation on flights, track your flight’s price, etc.)

ACCOMMODATIONS
Now that you have your airline tickets booked, it’s time for the fun part: accommodations!
Whether it’s making friends in a hostel, relaxing in your hotel after a long day of sightseeing, or enjoying all of the comforts of home in a vacation rental, you’ll find them all here. These are the best websites to book accommodations:
🏨 Booking.com
If I had to choose one travel website to use for the rest of my life, it would be Booking. My love for this site has no bounds, and if I had to guess, about 90% of all my accommodations are booked through Booking.
Seriously, there are so many awesome benefits when you book your accommodations through Booking.com — here are the top reasons:
📍 Free cancellation — Most accommodations will have a free cancellation option, which is perfect if you’re still in the research phase but don’t want to lose on a good deal. Book now and finalize later!
📍 No hidden fees — Unlike other websites (I’m looking at you, AirBnB ), Booking shows you the final cost upfront, as well as what’s included (i.e. resort fee, cleaning fee, etc)
📍 Mobile app — A well-designed app that’s great for booking last-minute accommodations. Psst: sometimes you’ll get better deals if you search on the app than versus their website!
📍 Price matching — if you find a place cheaper elsewhere, you can easily submit a claim and Booking will refund the difference.
📍 Genius status — Also known as Booking.com’s loyalty program, Genius users can enjoy extra perks like discounts (up to 20%!), complimentary breakfast, free room upgrades, and VIP customer support. It’s also super easy to achieve: to get to the first level, you only need to complete two stays within two years.
Honestly, there are so many benefits to using Booking.com that I’ll write a blog post about it sooner or later — keep watching this space.

🏨 Hotels.com
Just like the name says, this website is primarily focused on hotels. Although there are a handful of hostels and apartment rentals on the site, they are typically more upscale and catered towards functional travelers (versus party hostels).
According to recent stats, Hotels.com have more than 330,000 hotels across 19,000 destinations — leaving you with plenty of options.
However, what really sets Hotels.com apart are their free nights and Secret Prices.
Once you’ve signed up for an account and start reserving hotels, you’ll get a (virtual) stamp card that fills up every time you book. For every 10 nights booked through Hotels.com, you’ll earn a free hotel night!
Travel Hack: The cost of the free hotel night is the average of the previous 10 bookings, so I typically book my most expensive accommodations on Hotels.com. That way, when I get the 10th night free, I can use it for a fancy hotel. :)

🏨 Agoda
If you’re planning a trip to Asia, Agoda is your best bet — I used this throughout my SEA travels and only have good things to say.
Although the website has accommodations all around the world, it’s especially popular in Asian countries. According to an Agoda study, 6 out of the top 10 destinations on the website are located in Asia!
Of those, the countries with the most accommodations are China, followed by India, Japan, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Similar to the previous sites, Agoda has its own loyalty program (Agoda VIP), mobile application, and rewards program (Agoda Cash).

📸 Get Your Guide
Beautifully designed, easy to use, and excellent customer support… What more could you want?
GetYourGuide is *the* most popular activity booking website in Europe, and the stats don’t lie: it has more than 50,000 activities across 2,500 destinations!
Although the site brands itself as an online marketplace for tour guides and excursions, I’m going to summarize their platform with 4 T’s: tours, tickets, transportation, and trips.
If you want to get to know your destination better (whether that’s booking a ticket to a museum or a guided tour!), GetYourGuide is an excellent resource.
In fact, when I look back at the tours I took over the last few years, about 80% of them were booked through GYG (including my favorite tour guide, Maria, when we explored Rila Monastery in Bulgaria!)
Besides having a ton of activities and excursions, GYG also has a fantastic support team. One time we had to cancel a tour in Iceland (the Northern Lights were shy that day ) and the customer support team immediately handled my request and refunded our tickets.
Best of all, you can cancel your booking up until 24 hours before the activity starts and receive a full refund (on most activities).

📸 Viator
A close second to Get Your Guide, Viator has a very similar structure but is geared towards American travelers. If I can’t find a certain activity (or just want to widen my options!), I’ll check Viator as well.

📸 Klook
Last but certainly not least, Klook is the most popular activity booking site in Asia! Interestingly enough, it has more than 280,000 activities across 500 destinations (more than GYG!) and is especially popular for activities in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, and South Korea.
Other than activities, Klook is also popular for selling SIM cards, bus tickets, and even food vouchers (seriously — you can check it out here and buy yourself a boba tea :))
Best of all, you’ll earn credits for everything you book, which you can use to book even more activities/tours/excursions/boba tea!
